Dishwasher cleaning and deodorising with vinegar and bicarb (baking soda)

Dishwasher cleaning & deodorising hack

Cleaning and deodorising a dishwasher

This tutorial takes you through dishwasher cleaning and deodorising with vinegar and bicarb of soda (baking soda) as your only cleaning materials. This is an economical and highly effective way to maintain your dishwasher free of those nasty smells that build-up after a period of use. I have found this method to be more effective (and cheaper) than the commercial products particularly in getting rid of the smells.

Method

Step 1. Empty dishwasher. Remove, clean and replace dishwasher filter

Clean dishwasher filter

Step 2. Secure a cup of white vinegar in the centre of the dishwasher’s top rack.

1 cup white vinegar on top shelf

Step 3. Run dishwasher on its hottest cycle

Step 4. Sprinkle about 1 cup of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) on the floor of the dishwasher

Sprinkle 1 cup of bicarb on floor of dishwasher

Step 5. Run dishwasher on a rinse only cycle

Your dishwasher is now ready to use, sparkling clean and odour free.
