Find rainwater tank water level with a stud finder

This is a unique way to find rainwater tank water level with a dry wall stud finder. This stud finder method works on polyethylene rainwater tanks. In my experience it is accurate to 1-2 cm but may give a false reading when over strengthening ridges in the tank. I have found that, in the case of my particular stud finder, the setting of “deep wood” to yield the most accurate water level readings. The video tutorial also describes how to estimate the effect of rainfall on the rainwater tank water level in terms of millimetres of rain versus centimetres rise in tank water level. This helps us to keep a record of our use of this precious commodity, leading to more efficient water usage.
