How to hide messy cables

Recently I have been asked to share some ideas on how to hide messy wires or cables. So that is what this video tutorial is about. In this electronic age there are cables or wires going here, there and everywhere, often ending in a messy tangled mess. In this video I will share 7 ideas on how to hide or neaten messy wires or cables. I will discuss each option in chronological order as it appears in the video.

  1. Cable clips or staples. These are plastic clips which come in various sizes and each clip comes with a nail embedded in the plastic, ready to use. These do not hide cables, they merely neaten and secure a wire running on the surface.
  2. Electrical conduit. Comes in various diameters and the cable needs to be threaded through it and the conduit is secured in place with saddle or half-saddle clips. These are mostly used by electricians for concealing and protecting electrical wiring. The big disadvantage of this option is that it cannot be used for cables with plugs or appliances wired to each end because they cannot be threaded through the conduit.
  3. Square Electrical trunking or channel with a clip on plastic lid. This option also comes in various sizes and looks much neater then round conduit. In this case the channel id attached to the surface first the cable is laid in the slot and the lid is clipped on, so it can handle wires with appliances or plugs on each end.
  4. Aluminium channel. Used when wires need to be accessed regularly and it merely coves the cables and is held in place with gravity.
  5. Hole in desk top with off the shelf insert for wires to pass through. Wires in this option can be hidden behind cabinetry.
  6. Bamboo charging station which hides USB sockets and wires for charging smart phones and watches etc.
  7. Custom made wooden channel which can also function as a desk top shelf.
