How to weave a riempie chair with rope. This video tutorial is for beginners and shows, step-by-step, how to restring or weave a riempie or thong dining room chair with rope.
Step1. Remove the seat of the dining room chair from the chair frame
Step 2. Remove the old material, riempie or chord from the chair seat
Step 3. Measure and cut a length of woven cotton rope needed for half of the seat
Step 4. Tape the one end of the rope for easy threading
Step 5. Thread the rope through the first hole on one side from the underside of the seat
Step 6. Tie a simple knot at the other end of the rope and pull rope through until the knot wedges in the hole entrance
Step 7. Lace the rope side to side one hole at a time. Tension the rope then tie off with another simple knot
Step 8. With another length of rope the same length repeat steps 4-7 at 90 degrees to the first rope path. This time weave the rope over and under the strands of the first rope. Alternate the weave alternate rows.
Step 9. Reassemble the dining room chair
