This simple moving hack will remove chaos and stress from your life.
This video tutorial demonstrates a fool proof system of keeping track of all your packed items using an inventory with Microsoft (MS) word. This is how to set it up.
- Open a new blank document in MS Word
- Insert a 4 column table using the following column headings:-
Zone Zone code Box No. Contents
- Divide your home into zones of your choice and give each zone a letter code like K for kitchen and B for bedroom.
- Pack boxes according to each zone and at the completion of each box write on all 4 sides and the top of the box the zone code and box number like K1 for kitchen box number 1. Then immediately enter the box contents in the table in MS word. Then move onto the next box like K2 for kitchen box number 2. Record all the boxes and different packing zones of your home in a single document in MS word.
- When you arrive at your new home ask the removalists to group your packing cases according to the zone codes for instance keep all the K’s together and perhaps place them in the appropriate room in your new home.
- If you wish to locate a specific item simply open the inventory document on the computer, click on the ‘View’ tab on the ribbon on top then tick the ‘Navigation pane”. This will open down the left side of the page. Next click on ‘Results’ and type the name of the item you are looking for in the ‘search box’. Microsoft Word will then locate the item in the table and highlight it in yellow. The table will give the exact box number.
- Simply open the box and you will find the item you are looking for.
