Fallen tree removal with tractor

Removing a fallen tree with 4 in 1 bucket

What to do if a tree falls across your driveway and blocks it. This video shows how to remove a tree trunk from the road using a 4 in 1 bucket on a frontend loader attached to a small tractor. This technique can be applied to picking up and moving logs or railway sleepers as well. If you need to know how to operate a 4 in 1 bucket on a tractor’s frontend loader you will find this video tutorial very instructive: https://youtu.be/7vuSf4wMHDg

First we had to cut the top off the tree with a saw so that it would fit in the driveway. Then we had to cut off any branches that may have interfered with the 4 in 1 bucket getting a grip on the tree trunk. This is ideally near the estimated centre of gravity so that the load will be balanced while travelling with it in the jaws of the 4 in 1 bucket.

Before lifting the tree had to nudged into a position where the bucket jaws could approach it parallel to the tree trunk’s long axis. The 4 in 1 bucket jaws were then opened and lowered over the tree trunk and the tree was then clamped in the jaws and lifted about 50 cm off the ground. The tractor was driven slowly to a pile of brush where it was dumped.
